Darlene Avey was appointed Nov. 14 to complete Donna Wilson’s term as county and circuit clerk for Stone County.
Avey will serve from now through 2014, until a newly elected clerk takes over Jan. 1, 2015. She will not be eligible to run for the office during the 2014 elections.
Avey is a deputy clerk in the circuit clerk’s office and has worked in that office for 14 years.
The Stone County Quorum Court approved a resolution appointing Avey, after accepting Wilson’s resignation and declaring the position vacant. Justice of the Peace (JP) Larry Gammill said he favored appointing someone who has experience in the office and that Avey was the only person who expressed interest to him.
No other candidates were proposed, and the court voted unanimously to appoint Avey.
