Authorities are investigating the death of a local couple found dead in their home last week.
On Sept. 4 around 12:45 p.m. the Stone County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Division and the Arkansas State Police Criminal Division responded to a shooting at a residence on Highway 9 south of Mountain View where neighbors had discovered the bodies of 85-year-old Quincy Barfield and his wife, 77-year-old Rosie Barfield.
According to information from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, both victims died of what apparently was a single gunshot, therefore murder is not suspected. A hand gun was found at the scene.
Both bodies were submitted to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The sheriff’s office noted that this is an ongoing investigation, and more will be known when the findings of the state crime lab are received.
The Barfields were retired farmers who had moved to Stone County from Louisiana.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Louisiana.
