A Louisiana woman died May 15 in a rappelling accident near Gunner Pool Campground in the Ozark National Forest. 29-year-old Amy Alexander of Jena, La., was among a group of people from Louisiana and Mississippi who were rappelling about one-quarter mile downstream from the campground. Witnesses told First Responders that Alexander was attempting to rappel down a bluff when she had trouble negotiating around a tree that was growing from the bluff. She lost her grip and turned upside down, then slipped from the harness and fell head-first about 50 feet.
