Sidewalk Project Planned

7-5 Sidewalk

Mountain View City Council has taken the first step in building a new sidewalk on the south side of Main Street between Franklin Street and Peabody Avenue (Highway 9 South), agreeing unanimously to develop specifications and put the project out for bids.

The bid process will include taking bids two ways: with the city providing the labor and without the city providing the labor.

Councilman Bruce Stevens said he believes the American Ready Mix website could provide specifications of what compressive strength is needed for the concrete sidewalk.

The council also discussed various designs such as stained concrete or stamped.

They also questioned what should be done with the rock portion of sidewalk located in front of Holt Chiropractic Clinic. Council members were unsure if the rock could be reincorporated into the new sidewalk and still be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Mayor Roger Gardner said the old concrete sidewalk can be used as fill at the soccer field. He also noted the highway department had relinquished control of the sidewalks a few months back, but he hoped the agency would construct the curb.
