Bluegrass Festival Begins Thursday

Posted

Bluegrass musicians and enthusiasts will gather in Mountain View this weekend for the 16th Annual Spring Bluegrass Festival.

Produced by the Mountain View Bluegrass Association Inc., the three-day festival is a twice yearly event that takes place at the Ozark Folk Center State Park.

The all-acoustic, bluegrass-gospel weekend includes performances by well-known bands and indoor and outdoor jamming areas depending on weather. The festival begins with an all-gospel evening on Thursday, followed by two days of concerts by headline acts and ongoing jamming by musicians around town.

Bands slated to perform at the spring festival this year are Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, The Grascals, Dave Adkins Band, No Time Flatt, Dueling Hearts, and Twang.

Reserved seating is now available for the Bluegrass Festival. Preferred seats may be selected online.

The seats in the five rows closest to the stage are priced higher than seats in the rest of the auditorium. Tickets may be purchased online or at the door.

Ticket prices for the Thursday evening gospel show are $20 for general seating and $25 for premium. Tickets Friday and Saturday are $25 for general and $35 for premium each night.

Mountain View Bluegrass Association is a non-profit organization that gives back a portion of the proceeds to support the Music Roots program, which teaches traditional instruments to local youth.

Festival concerts are held in the Ozark Folk Center’s 1,000-seat auditorium, with the Folk Center grounds available for informal jam sessions throughout the weekend. Music continues at local picking spots, as the weather allows, into the early morning hours.

The Bluegrass Festival was first held in March, 2003, when local musicians and bluegrass fans decided to develop an event that emphasized the bluegrass style of music. Mountain View is traditionally known for folk music. The festival proved so popular that a second weekend was added in the fall.

The festival is held on the second weekend in March and November.
