A job site near the Stone County Court Complex ground should begin looking like a building soon.
County Judge Stacy Avey told justices of the peace May 9 that most of the underground water pipes and electric conduits are in place and concrete forms have been delivered to the site of the county’s new jail. The construction site is off Blanchard Avenue, adjacent to the current county jail.
Avey told JPs the $11.6 million project, as anticipated, required some rock cutting that will add cost to the project at a rate of $340 a ton.
Avey said the county awaits an invoice from the contractor for rock removal.
The judge said he sees nothing in the job’s progress so far that would push the 18-month duration of the build beyond its projected completion next year. The county broke ground in February.
