Iris Festival Sees Third Year

Carousel organs return for 2021 event

Posted

The third Mountain View Iris Festival took place Friday and Saturday with sunny conditions for the variety of events taking place, including an appearance by members of the Carousel Organ Association, who demonstrated about 20 different organs in the downtown area.

There was live music to conclude both days, with a large street dance taking place Saturday evening.

Activities on Saturday included sale of iris rhizomes, for which organizer Karen Avey resorted to carefully thinning beds around the courtsquare after the initial supply was exhausted.
Children were provided canvases to paint their own version of the popular flowers.

The Corvette Posse conducted a car show west of the courtsquare.
The Iris Show and Photo Contest was held at Mountain View Meeting Place with the following winners named:
Brenda David of Mountain View won both first place and runner-up in the iris show (see photo of first place winner on page 1B).

Photo with object in addition to iris: Susan Creekmore of Marion. She also won for a photo with multple blooms.

Photo with single bloom: Glenda Perkins of West Memphis.

The flower show and photos were judged by Laverna Richey of Searcy, a certified iris judge.

People’s Choice Flower - white with purple trim, entered by Debra Alexander of Mountain View.

People’s Choice Photo - entry by Judy Sheperd of Marion.

The Mountain View Iris Society is continuing its quilt raffle until the July 4th events in Mountain View. Visit the Mountain View Iris Festival Facebook page or website for more information:
