Jailer-Dispatchers Set To Resign Friday

Posted

Officials will be watching the Stone County Jail Friday morning when four jailier-dispatchers are set to resign over hourly wages they say are unsustainable.

The  resignations would reduce  the number of jail  employees to five, which is about a third of full staffing. The county's jail administrator says the facility could not function in such circumstances.

Sheriff Lance Bonds says he will temporarily take deputies off patrol to work in the jail if that happens.

Meanwhile, the quorum court's budget committee will begin authorizing checks to many of those employees who have total compensatory time exceeding 2,100 hours. Budget committee members hope the compensation will buy time to keep the jailers on staff until they can fully examine possibilities for an increase in their $11 per hour salaries.

The topic was discussed Tuesday (Oct 19) at a meeting of the county's budget and law enforcement committees.
