The restaurant had diners inside when musicians and others across the street at Mountain View Music noticed that smoke rising from the BBQ smoker on the west side did not have its usual appearance or aroma. When flames were spotted, onlookers jumped to action to warn those inside and call 911.
Three pumper trucks from Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department responded. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the nearby Yellow House building occupied by Twisted Mule Mercantile.
Kinfolks owners Phillip and Kathy Rushing were called to the scene. Phillip Rushing said the restaurant was being operated by prospective buyers who planned to pursue a purchase in the coming months.
