No one really knows how friends Bonnie Cartwright and Merle Richardson got acquainted, but for them it’s enough to just say “we’ve known each other forever.” When one is age 95 and the other just three months younger, that’s a long time.
The two were interviewed on the same day last week but in separate locations – Merle at the nursing home in Calico Rock, where she is now a resident, and Bonnie in her hometown of Fifty Six.
Both women mentioned that they would often see each other at Walmart, where they used to sit and visit while waiting for prescriptions to be filled. They also have talked on the phone frequently. Their families hope to get them together for a visit soon.
Bonnie turned 95 on April 29 this year. Merle will turn 95 on July 2.
