A Stone County man with obvious emotional issues created quite a scene April 3 on Main Street in Mountain View, then the next day burned down his mother’s house.
Foy Densmore, 56, withdrew $921 in one- and five-dollar bills and change from First Security Bank on Main Street, according to Densmore’s statement to Mountain View Police. He then walked outside and threw the money in the air. Windy conditions blew the money everywhere causing a traffic jam with people stopping cars in the street to pick up the bills. Densmore was put in protective custody by Mountain View Police and taken to the jail for a mental evaluation by Health Resources of Arkansas (HRA). He was uncooperative with HRA personnel, who left when he cussed them. He was later released from custody.
The next day, Sheriff Lance Bonds said he and investigators with his office were dispatched to 609 Sawmill Road to a structure fire. The house was fully engulfed in flames and Densmore was observed standing next to the house naked. According to the officers, Densmore was acting “excited and giddy” and said, “I burned it to the ground.” Densmore was handcuffed by Investigator Sean Hickman and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. During an interview, Densmore said he was upset because he had been asked to leave the residence, therefore he set fire to the residence and burned it.
He was charged with arson, a class Y felony, and is in custody awaiting bond to be set.
Sheriff Bonds said the residence appears to be a total loss.
