March 6 storm damage

Tornado-warned storm downs trees in western Stone County

Posted

A severe thunderstorm produced radar indicated rotation that sent many residents to storm shelters after a  tornado warning was issued around 6 p.m. March 6. Dangerous conditions continued as the storm moved northeast from Flag to near Round Bottom between Allison and Guion.

Stone County Judge Stacey Avey said many trees were downed, including many on Ramsey Cemetery Rd., where a three-phase power line was  affected, causing widespread power outages.  The roof of a hay barn was also damaged. Jimmy Creek Road was another area where many trees were uprooted.

County road crews, volunteer fire department members and ARDOT crews worked into the night clearing roads and assisting residents.

Entergy showed about 1,500 customers being without power on Sunday night, and that number had been cut in half by Monday morning.
