Visitors are Homecoming spoiler in two of three games

Mountain View teams hosted Melbourne Jan. 12 for Homecomimg and the visitors proved to be spoilers for two of the three games.

The junior boys were downed 48-25. Kade Shipman scored 7 points, while Noah Davis and Eli Davis added 5 each.

The senior girls fell short 57-51. Kaitlyn McCarn scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Emma Akins added 15 points and Jaci Cooper scored 10.

McCarn scored her 1,000th point in the two years she has played for Mountain View.

The Lady Yellowjackets trailed 26-17 at haltime, and started the third quarter on a 9-2 scoring run with baskets by Emma Akins and McCarn, plus a basket and three-pointer from Cooper. Melbourne came back to lead by five at the end of the quarter.

Emma Akins hit two freethrows early in the fourth period, then McCarn swished a trey from the top of the key to tie the score at 38 but the Lady Bearkatz were again able to secure the lead.

The senior boys won 65-57 with Collin Johnson tossing in 25 points, while Trevor Downs added 15 and Jack Newton put up 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

The Yellowjackets fell behind 10-5 in the first quarter, but recovered in the second as Johnson scored 11 points from the field and Jack Newton hit seven of eight freethrow attempts to help give the team a 26-21 halftime lead.

Downs opened the third quarter with a trey and then hit two more during the period to help maintain the lead.
Ten more points from Johnson in the fourth period, along with a trey and two freethrows from Downs helped secure the win.
