Athletes Added To Record Books

Several local sharpshooting basketball players have been added to the state record books maintained by the Arkansas Activities Association. The listings reflect the top 10 performances.

Girls basketball

In girls basketball, Debra Carlton Perry of Fox is recognized for 70 points scored in a 6-on-6 girls basketball game. This was achieved on Nov. 28, 1978, in a 90-28 victory over Scotland, as reported in the Leader.

More recently, Abbey Linville of Rural Special made 10 3-pointers for her team in a game played Nov. 12, 2019, and made 9 3-pointers in a game Jan. 12, 2021, to make the top 10 in that category.

Other top 10 entries for local players from 2024 are 6 3-pointers by Kaitlyn McCarn in a state tournament game, 2024; and 8 offensive rebounds in a game by Kaydence Dearien, 2024.

Mountain View Hall of Fame inductee Peggy Ward still holds the top spot for most points scored in a state tournament game at 58.

Boys basketball

The following top 10 entries were added last month:

Three pointers made by a team in a game: 15, Mountain View, 2-9-24.

Three pointers made by a team in a game: 14, Mountain View, 1-23-24.

Three pointers made in a game: 11, Brayden Watts, Rural Special, 2-15-24. Watts is the grandson of Debra Carlton Perry mention above.

Three pointers made in a game: 10, Collin Johnson, Mountain View, 1-23-24.

Three pointers made in a half: 8, Collin Johnson, Mountain View, 1-23-24.

Three pointers made in a quarter: 6, Collin Johnson, Mountain View, 1-23-24.

Three pointers made in a quarter: 5, Trevor Downs, Mountain View, 1-20-24.

Three pointers attempted in a game: 17, Collin Johnson, Mountain View, 1-23-24.

Assists in a game: 13, Jack Newton, Mountain View, 12-5-23.

Assists in a game: 11, Jack Newton, Mountain View, 1-30-24.
