The filing period for candidates participating in the March 3, 2020, Preferential Primary for local and state offices -- and for independent candidates seeking those offices -- will take place between noon on Nov. 4 and noon on Nov. 12.
County offices up for election in 2020 will be justices of the peace and constable. Following the 2016 Arkansas Constitutional changes, countywide elected officials are serving a four-year term, and these position will not be open until 2022: county judge, sheriff, county/circuit clerk, treasurer, collector, assessor, coroner, and surveyor.
The Stone County Election Office on the east side of the courtsquare in Mountain View will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 4, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 5-8, and 9:30 to noon Nov. 12. (It will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.) Candidates may pick up forms at the election office or the county clerk's office.
Representatives of the Republican and Democratic Parties will be at the office to accept filing fees. After filing with the appropriate party, candidates must provide written evidence of filing fee payment and additional paperwork to the Stone County Clerk before noon on Nov. 12.
Candidates wishing to file as independents without party affiliation have the same filing period, and must pick up and return forms to the clerk's office.
Republican filing fees are $100 for JP and free for constable.

Filing fee for those running on the Democratic ticket is $20 for all county offices, a change that was approved at the Feb. 28 committee meeting. Anyone wishing to file as Democratic Party JP candidate may contact Jerry Weber at 870-615-4931, and he will send copies of the forms to the state party office.
