Lady Tiger Lose Heartbreaker

Posted

Timbo basketball teams hosted Concord Dec. 13 and the visiting Pirates captured three wins, but the senior Lady Tigers did not go down without a fight. The visitors were lucky to emerge with a one-point victory.

Timbo had taken the lead in the second quarter after Ashlynn Lewis hit a shot to put her team up by one point, then Aubree Freeman hit a layup to lead 18-15.

The Lady Pirates hit two treys in the last two minutes before halftime, and a third attempt danced on the rim before spinning off, leaving the score 18-21.
The three-point edge held through the third quarter, as each team scored 10 points.

Concord took possession in the fourth and committed a turnover before hitting a trey on the next possession. Madison Looney countered with a shot from long-range, but Concord’s post player scored three unanswered baskets to give her team a 31-40 advantage with 4:24 left to play.

Timbo’s Madison Mosley went to the line for a one-and-one and missed, but Emma Roubique forced a jump ball that restored possession. Looney hit another three-pointer to trim the deficit to six points.
A Concord player went to the freethrow line and hit one of two, then Roubique drew the fifth foul against Concord’s center and sent her to the bench.

Roubique hit one of two freethrows. In the chase for the rebound on the missed second shot, Katie McCoy was able to slap the ball off a Lady Pirate before it went out of bounds. Looney hit another trey to make it 38-41 with two minutes remaining.

Timbo pressured the ball full-court and forced a turnover, then McCoy drove in to get within one point at 40-41.

Roubique stole the ball but another trey attempt by Looney missed its mark. Concord struggled with a loose ball and a time-out was called to save possession with one minute left on the clock. McCoy forced another jump ball that went to Concord, and they worked the ball until calling time at 17.5. They then committed a turnover on the inbounds play.

Timbo took possession and McCoy drove inside and a foul was whistled; therefore the subsequent basket made by Roubique after the ball came straight to her was nullified. McCoy went to the line for a one-and-one and the shot bounced off the rim. The ball went out of bounds and was awarded to Concord with 7.3 showing on the clock. The inbounds pass toward the basket was overthrown and Roubique was able to grab it and move around defenders for a layup but the shot went over the rim. Freeman rebounded and tossed it back toward players under the basket, and Looney was able to get a shot, but it too bounced off. McCoy got her hands on the rebound but was squished between defenders as the final buzzer sounded.
