Mountain View School District receives grant

USDA Rural Development Arkansas State Director Jill Floyd announced the Mountain View School District was selected for a $265,498 grant under the USDA Rural Development Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grant Program administered by the Rural Utilities Service. She was accompanied by area director Johnny James (far left) and telecommunications program rep Tony Matlock in presenting the award May 2. Supt. Brent Howard and finance coordinator Cindy Smith (who applied for the grant) accepted along with pre-k students Nash Dearien and Julie Smith, fifth grader Allegra Duncan, sixth grader Drey Duncan, eighth grader Olivia Dowdy and ninth grader Nyrie Dowdy. The DLT Grant will connect four remote classrooms in the district with digital learning technology, enabling students to receive expanded education opportunities without having to travel. Instructors at Ozarka College will deliver courses in Culinary Arts, Auto Service Tech, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technical, Certified Nursing Assistant and Commercial Pilot Program to the four locations benefitting more than 1,500 students.
