Proposal For Split Adopted By Board

Details of school agreement up for negotiation

Posted

Mountain View School Board approved recommendations from its steering committee regarding the division of school district assets last week.

They are proposing to transfer five school buses each to Rural Special and Timbo, all property at their respective campuses, and some money, but significantly less than requested by those districts.

A LENGTHY STORY RELATING FURTHER ACTION AND DISCUSSION AT THE MEETING IS PUBLISHED IN THE MARCH 25 ISSUE. THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS DETAIL ADDITIONAL ACTIONS THAT WOULD NOT FIT IN THE PRINT EDITION:

The board voted to expel two students, identified only by numbers. One is expelled through the 2026-27 school year and one for the calendar year until March 15, 2027.

Also, they voted to accept several resignations, including MVHS art teacher Allen Bishop, bus driver Jim Richardson, Timbo lunchroom worker Ellen Dodson, Timbo preschool teacher Michelle Hughes, MVHS paraprofessional Leslie Forte, and mental health therapist Marita Dowdy.

In other business, the board:

• voted to keep its current officers, Pres. Roxanne Davis, Vice-President Matt Dearien, and Secretary Lori Dobbins.

• approved the 2026-27 school calendar, with the first day of class set for Aug. 11. Mitchell said the calendar is similar to this year’s, except the end-of-year is extended by a week because of a later window for assessment testing. The last day is set for May 19. This allows for a few more days off and flex days during the year. Holiday breaks will be similar to this year.

• approved the consent agenda, including one student transfer from Rural Special to Timbo and the monthly financial report.

Rachelle Stewart inquired about the solar installation, and Supt. Dusty Mitchell said someone is coming in April to fix a problem with the connection, so they won’t have an accurate reading until it’s fixed. It works intermittently. Paula Gammill requested a written report on the history of the solar panels.
