Rough Patch

Drivers on some county roads have become very familiar with rough patches like this one on Misenheimer Road. Judge Stacey Avey explained that the subgrade had failed in sections of Misenheimer and Luber roads, so the county dug it out and replaced it with rock during July, with the intention of getting the paving funded during the Arkansas Highway Department’s July bid letting. Misenheimer and Luber are both eligible for the State Aid County Road Program, which provides state money for paving projects on qualifying county roads. Unfortunately, they missed the July deadline by a few days and then learned there would not be another bid letting until Sept. 11. The county has been patching the spots with gravel in the meantime, and Avey estimates it will be another 30 days before the paving takes place. It will include about a mile each on Misenheimer and Luber. Similar areas have also been dug up on Hub Willis and a portion of Dogwood Hollow Road, but the county will overlay these at its own expense.
