The Stone County Community Center board of directors held a community meeting Saturday afternoon where they reviewed the past year’s activities, brainstormed about events for this year and drew for the winner of the storage shed raffle.

Nearly 400 tickets were sold prior to the drawing at 5 p.m., with some taken online in the final minutes. The final tickets were added to the tub and Don Jordan was recruited to draw the winning ticket. Scott Sefton won the storage shed, which had been donated by Hipp’s Modern Builders and John Henderson.

The meeting was conducted by board members Sara Stumpenhaus, president; Stefine Brown, vice president; Denise Dobbins, treasurer; Taylar Sherrill, secretary; and April Everett, reporter.

Stumpenhaus reviewed actions completed by the board since its formation last year, including obtaining non-profit status, electing the board and adopting bylaws and articles of incorporation. One survey of the public has been conducted confirming support for a multi-purpose facility, and more surveys will be developed to gather public input.

Membership to the organization is set at $5 per year and there are about 20 members as of this publication. Membership offers voting rights so that individuals can vote for the leadership and help determine the organization’s direction.

Stumpenhaus said the group’s vision continues to be driven by local residents and research on successful ventures in nearby cities.

“We’re constantly doing research about what works,” she noted.
