Dycus Released; Trial Pending

A woman who is charged with homicide in the death of her 4-year-old daughter has been released from the Stone County Jail in accordance with the state’s speedy trial requirements.

Victoria Dycus, 29, was charged with the Nov. 19, 2016 death of her daughter, Skylar Shellstrom. Dycus was charged along with James Hagen Glenn, 31, with murder in the first degree. According to the police affidavit, the child died from complications resulting from blunt force abdominal injuries.

Dycus had been incarcerated since her arrest on Dec. 21, 2016. Her case is expected to go to trial around the middle of December, according to Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Josh Collums, who said there was to be a hearing this week.

Collums explained that according to the speedy trial rules set by Arkansas law, if a case is not brought to trial within nine months from the time of arrest, the defendant must be released on their own recognizance. The case must be tried within 12 months from the time of arrest.

“The state remains committed to try the case,” Collums said, noting that no charges have been dismissed.

Glenn had previously been released on bond, and his case will also be tried, he said.
