A historic residence known as the Doc Monroe Place on Highway 14 just west of St. James was destroyed by fire March 21.
Marsha McCurry said she had joined her son, Chris Reynolds, to watch the Razorback basketball game and he had food in the smoker when they heard a “boom” and then another “boom.” They soon realized a fire had started in the garage, quickly engulfing the old dog-trot home that dates back to the pre-Civil War era.
