Mountain View To Host Class 3A Region 2 Tournament

Mountain View senior boys basketball team capped a conference title with a district tournament championship Saturday evening with a 53-42 win over Newport. The Yellowjackets had defeated Tuckerman 54-45 in the semifinals. The team competes in regional tournament play Wednesday at 5:30 vs. Rivercrest. Mountain View hosts this year’s regional tournament.

Against Newport, Sam Fletcher and Beck Morrow each scored 13 points, with Morrow also getting 6 rebounds. Camyn Vickers added 9 points and got 5 steals, and Collin Johnson tossed in 8 points and got 6 rebounds. Jack Newton added 6 points.

Against Tuckerman, Johnson led with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Fletcher scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Trevor Downs added 8 points, while Beck Morrow scored 7 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Jack Newton scored 6 points and gave 4 assists.

Mountain View senior girls

Mountain View senior girls basketball team defeated Newport 65-56 in district quarterfinals, but fell to Melbourne 46-36 in the semifinal round last Friday. They advance to regional play this week and are set to play Corning Thursday at 4 p.m. in the tournament.

Against Newport, Kaitlyn McCarn scored 23 points, dished out 7 assists and stole the ball 6 times. Emma Akins scored 12 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, while Torianne McCarty added 10 points and Jaci Cooper and Ellie Akins each scored 9 points.

Against Melbourne, McCarn scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Emma Akins tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Ellie Akins added 7 points.
