Jody Smotherman Accepts Lead Role At Medical Center

Posted

Jody Smotherman is one of those people who belongs in just about any environment. He’s spent the last three years in the specialty field of health care community engagement, and it’s a good descriptor for the new Stone County Medical Center administrator who shows a passion for people and improved quality of life.

A 17-year veteran in the White River Health system, Smotherman recently was named SCMC administrator and chief operating officer after working several months in an interim capacity.

An Oil Trough native with a professional background in pharmacy, Smotherman executes a broad role in the White River system as chief strategy officer and vice president for community engagement. His responsibilities include strategic planning, marketing, advancement and fundraising, community service, promoting health and wellness, and volunteer and chaplain services.

Each role requires an intentionally relational personality and business philosophy for someone who values building community partnerships, business development, and creating strategic opportunities.

Smotherman’s grandparents were Sutterfields from Stone County and he sees the role at SCMC as an opportunity to carry on a family legacy.

“This is just a tremendous place to work and live and a great community to be a part of. I don’t think there’s any limit to what we can do when we’re all working together,” Smotherman said.

“We have a lot of reasons to be proud of what’s happening at SCMC, and I think we’ll have more to share about that very soon.”
