Lady Rebel Team Receives Rings

Posted

Rural Special senior girl basketball players received their state champion rings last Thursday, with Principal Junior Barham saying it was a well-deserved honor that he wished could have been witnessed by a gymnasium packed with people.

Safety considerations resulted in the presentation being made in front of a few parents, siblings and friends.
The cost of rings was sponsored by Stone County Medical Center.

Administrator Jody Smotherman told the girls he had attended school in a community even less populated than Rural Special where basketball was more than just a sport, so he knew what a historic accomplishment they had achieved for not only the team but for their families, their school and their county.

Mountain View Schools Athletic Director Matt Sullivan offered his congratulations on the accomplishment on behalf of the school district.

The 2020-21 Lady Rebels won the Class A State Championship in March, a first for Rural Special School.
