Local Races Decided in General Election

Avey Re-Elected as County Judge, Long Wins Sheriff's Race

With 55 percent of voters casting ballots in the Nov. 8 General Election,  County Judge Stacey Avey (Ind.) was re-elected over challenger Jim Nesbitt (Rep.) by 230 votes, 2,659-2,429.

Brandon Long (Rep.) bested two Independent challengers to win the job of Stone County Sheriff without a run-off. He received 2,738 votes to Dammon McGilton's 1,583 and Tony Trammell's 769.

Three justice of the peace races were also decided.

  • In JP District 3, Tim Hudspeth (Ind.) won against Mark E Givans (Rep.) 292-253.
  • In JP District 4, incumbent Jason Kocher (Ind.) won against Heidi Myers (Rep.) 245-225.
  • In JP District 6, incumbent Seth Templin (Rep.) won against Robert "Bob" Turner (Ind.) 273-237.

Local voters rejected all four amendment questions that were on the ballot, and none passed statewide (Issue 3 results were close and were still pending outcome of one county when this was posted).
