Municipal Races Set for Nov. 5

Incumbents challenged in Wards 1 and 2

Posted

Four races developed for Mountain View City Council positions coming up in the Nov. 5 General Election in the candidate filing period that closed Aug. 7.

Incumbent J.K. Williams is challenged by Jessica Sterlin and incumbent Finis Brewer is challenged by Gary L. Williams in Ward 1.

Incumbent Ricky Shuttleworth is challenged by Charles R. Widmer and incumbent Truman L. Bullard is challenged by Bobby Day in Ward 2.

Ward 3 incumbents Dana Woods (Position 1) and Danny E. Simmons (Position 2) filed for re-election without opposition.

Position 1 candidates will be elected to four-year terms, while Position 2 candidates will be for two-year terms for this cycle. In 2026, Position 2 candidates will be the only ones on the ballot, and will be elected to four-year terms. This will achieve four-year terms for all positions, but will result in only half of them coming up for election in each two-year cycle.

In the town of Fifty Six, four of the five positions have incumbents unopposed for re-election: Aaron Byrd in Position 2, Lisa Van Evera in Position 3, Jon R. Van Evera, Sr. in Position 4, and Eric C. Williams in Position 5.

No one filed for Position 1, which currently is held by Caitlynn Branscum.
