Mark Rush resigned as superintendent of Mountain View School District last week.
The school board accepted Rush’s resignation during a special meeting June 26. Rush was not present at the meeting, and there was no discussion following an executive session of about 40 minutes. He did not respond to a message seeking a comment June 30.
The board voted to advertise the position and appointed Assistant Supt. Dusty Mitchell as interim superintendent. They also voted to pay Mitchell an additional $875 a month for the added superintendent duties. The board had approved an extension to Rush’s contract in January and an increase to his salary in June. He had been hired as superintendent for the 2024-25 school year after serving as assistant superintendent for several years.
Also during the special meeting, the board approved several other personnel changes, including hiring Ellen Harmon as MVES self-contained special ed teacher, Tracy Medley as MVES self-contained special ed aide, Nicole Jones as MVMS 8th grade math teacher, and Jennifer Orengo as MVMS self-contained special ed teacher.
They transferred Jessika Gammill from Mountain View 1st grade to MVES reading intervention and accepted the resignation of Jamie McDonald as high school special ed aide and Chris Crymes from an IT position at Timbo and Rural Special.
The board approved moving its regular July meeting to the 21st.
