New Radio Station Launched

Mountain View music to be featured on KWMV 88.5

Springdale resident Joe Hart has been successful in launching a local radio station devoted to the presentation and preservation of local music.

KWMV 88.5 is now on the air, and programming is still in development. Currently, Hart is playing from a catalog of about 800 songs from local artists, including some older material, and he is seeking more.

No live announcers currently are on air, but he is looking for volunteer DJs who want to be involved. Anyone interested in being involved in programming or in submitting music may contact Hart at 479-466-2448.

Hart obtained the FCC license under his non-profit Community Educational Radio, and installed a low- to medium-power tower on Dodd Mountain to operate a non-commercial non-profit broadcast station at 88.5 FM. The signal should be strong throughout the Mountain View area, he noted.

“We intend to feature local musicians and talent,” Hart told the Leader earlier this year. This would include broadcasting live during local events, jams and concerts. His emphasis will be on young talent, events and weather.
Apps for devices should be available soon, he said.

Hart said he has musical interests and fell in love with Mountain View during the previous summer when his family visited. They plan to build a home in the community.

He currently works for the U.S. Postal Service and plans to retire in a few years, at which time he will be able to devote himself fully to the radio project.
Hart has experience in radio, having owned other stations in Prairie Grove and Springdale.
