Mountain View City Council discussed upgrades and future plans for the Stone County Recreation Complex at the Sept. 10 council meeting.
Councilman J.K. Williams stated he went to the park and looked at the score boards and poles and said there were a few in pretty bad shape. For safety and longevity he said he recommended the wooden poles be replaced with aluminum poles as needed.
He said he believed the local banks would be willing to sponsor score boards at the ball fields.
He stated city crews and volunteers work hard to keep the ground looking good and the city needed to continue to work on the area for the younger generation to enjoy.
Councilman Danny Simmons agreed if the city was going to repair or replace something it needed to be done right the first time, then the city can move on to the next project.
Mayor Roger Gardner said he had ordered signs recognizing the pool sponsors, which were The Dels, Excel Boats, and Modern Woodman. He said the initial signs were too small and he reordered bigger ones. He noted the pool cover had also been ordered.
Councilman Finis Brewer said he had spoken to the school athletic director about financially supporting the ball fields.
Gardner said the city should move forward with replacing any irreparable wooden posts and contact banks for possible sponsorships.
Councilman Truman Bullard asked if anyone had heard any additional information on a skate park.
Gardner said he had a zoom meeting with a company that builds skate and bike parks and that is willing to work with the city to help receive grants.
