Portable Pumps Get System Back Online

Some customers in county still without service; conservation requested

Posted

Two 6” diesel powered portable pumps are successfully pumping water into the Mountain View water system as of Wednesday afternoon, restoring water service to some areas of the city.  While not at normal pumping capacity for the system, the rate has been enough to stay ahead of usage initially, and Supt. Keith Johnson hopes to see the city tanks regain some volume.

Residents are asked to continue to use conservatively to assure a supply for everyone can be restored. Johnson said he hopes the rural associations can begin to pump limited amounts on Thursday.

“It’s looking better,” he commented at 3 p.m. Wednesday. “We still haven’t figured out why we’re not getting water into the intake.”

Johnson said he is appreciative of the many people who have offered to help and others who have offered to bring pumps. The system has limited inlets, so two pumps can be used.

State Sen. Missy Irvin was assisting Stone County Stacey Avey and the county’s office of emergency management in getting information out to residents and in securing state resources.

Rural water associations have been designated as points of distribution for bottled water that was obtained following Avey’s emergency declaration Tuesday afternoon.

A boil order is in effect for everyone served by the Mountain View system, including all rural associations as they come back online.
