Mayor Roger Gardner reported to the Mountain View City Council last week that Tractor Supply Company had purchased a tract of land in Mountain View and planned to break ground soon. He said the company had purchased the Wyatt property across from Mountain View Schools.
Gardner told the Leader following the meeting that the company had been considering potential locations for several years.
Tractor Supply targets hobby farmers, ranchers, homeowners, gardeners and pet enthusiasts and bills itself as the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the U.S. As of June 28, the Company operated 2,335 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states.
Also at the meeting, the council approved the transfer of funds in the water department, moving $70,000 from water revenue to operation and maintenance because that fund was getting low.
Department superintendent Keith Johnson said the department had recently had a higher-than-normal water loss of 25 percent, and had three payrolls falling in October. When asked about the water loss, he explained that some leaks occur in lines that are “out in the middle of nowhere” and are not noticed right away, and then are difficult to find. Council member Dana Woods asked what the industry standard for acceptable loss is, and Johnson said it is 10 percent but that he doesn’t know of a department that can maintain that limit.
