Two Local Teams Compete At State

Mountain View and Rural Special senior girls basketball teams both advanced in post-season play, but each was eliminated in first-round state tournament action.
Games had unusual schedules because of postponements caused by weather. Regional levels were completed and state tournaments began in the same week.

Mountain View
Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets finished third in the 3A Region 2 at Rose Bud after falling to Pangburn in the semifinals and defeating Hoxie in the game to determine third/fourth seeding.
Mountain View opened with a 56-34 win over Corning Feb. 27.

In the 58-54 overtime loss to Pangburn Feb. 28, Josie Storey scored 29 points and got 7 rebounds. Harley Avey scored 7 points, while Kennedy Holland added 6 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Emry Johnson and Rylee Shipman each scored 6 points, and Johnson also pulled down 7 rebounds.

In the 55-43 win over Hoxie on March 1, Storey scored 20 points and got 4 steals. Holland added 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and gave 6 assists. Johnson scored 10 points, got 11 rebounds and blocked 4 shots.

The 3A State Tournament was played at North Arkansas College, and Mountain View faced former conference foe Valley Springs. on March 5. The Lady Panthers prevailed 67-51. Storey pumped in 37 points and got 8 rebounds. Johnson added 7 points and Holland pulled down 8 rebounds to go along with 4 points.
The Lady Yellowjackets ended the season with a record of 20 wins and 9 losses.

Rural Special
Rural Special senior girls finished fourth in 1A Region 2 after defeating the host team 49-42 Feb. 27 at Hillcrest.

The team came up against Norfork Feb. 28 and was downed 46-31. Brinley Morgan scored 13 points and Rayleigh Turner added 8.

In the game to decide the third/fourth seeds for state on March 1, the Lady Rebels fell short against West Side, 39-37. Turner led with 13 points, and Kylan Stevens added 11.

In the first round of the 1A State Tournament at Morrilton March 3, Rural Special was defeated by Kingston 61-49. Turner tossed in 21 points, while Stevens added 13 and Brinley Morgan 10.
