Water Associations Begin Pumping From MV System

Request to conserve, boil order remain in effect

UPDATE 10 AM THURSDAY -   Mountain View Mayor Roger Gardner said the water associations started pumping water from the MV system around 8 a.m. Thursday. They are not pumping at full capacity, and it will take time for water to reach all areas of the county, he noted.

Water Supt. Keith Johnson said the city tanks were at least half full and the diesel pumps at the river were staying ahead of the pumps sending water to the treatment plant. Associations would be allowed to continued pumping as long as usage does not outpace treatment production.

Everyone is asked to continue using water conservatively. The entire system (including all rural associations) remains under a boil order until further notice.

“I can’t be more proud of our guys,” the mayor said. “They have worked day and night to get it up and running.”

Travis Trammell, a contractor who has worked on many aspects of the treatment plant construction and expansion, has been working steadily trying to get additional pumps online. The SALT engineering firm frequently used by the city has helped. Water plant operator Che Posada and Johnson were also commended for their diligence during the outage.

“This is the reason we have water in the city of Mountain View and the reason we have water heading out to the associations,” Gardner said. “It’s those guys. They worked day and night.”

The mayor himself has been monitoring work and making calls and fielding phone calls, looking for pumps, making sure the hospital and nursing home were prepared for an outage, etc.

State Sen. Missy Irvin helped facilitate a shipment of bottled water, which was distributed to associations. No detailed information about where the water can be obtained was available for this update but the Leader staff will continue working to gather needed details.
