Paving Projects To Begin Soon

The Mountain View City Council agreed at last week’s regular meeting to move forward with repaving some streets and beginning a new sidewalk project.

Mayor Roger Gardner said Atlas Asphalt will be able to begin paving soon. Areas to be be repaved are Vine Street in the amount of $72,974, a section of Airport Drive in the amount of $26,750, and city hall’s parking lot in the amount of $16,048.

The city has been awarded a $212,000 TAP grant for a new sidewalk project. The sidewalk will allow pedestrians to walk from city hall to the county court complex. The sidewalk path will run from city hall along Jackson Street to Vine Avenue. It will run south on Vine to Main Street.

The city will pay $58,000 in matching funds and an extra $65,000 to complete the project.

Gardner said his “big dream” is to have a sidewalk eventually run all the way east to the hospital.

Councilman Finis Brewer questioned if laying new sidewalk on the north side of Main Street was possible. Gardner said that he would have to approach land owners for approval.

Councilman Dana Woods said there are some very narrow sidewalks in that area that need to be widened, if possible. Gardner said the city would just have to complete sections as money is available.
