Woman Dies In Highway 9 Crash

A Mountain View woman was killed Dec. 10 when her vehicle was struck by the trailer of an oncoming semi-truck around 1 p.m.

Darla Furrer, 80, was driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan north on Highway 9 north of Shirley in Van Buren County, when her vehicle was struck in a curve.

A state police preliminary accident summary indicates the trailer of a 2013 Freightliner truck slid across the centerline when the driver applied the brakes, and the van struck the trailer’s front axle. The driver of the truck was not identified.

The road condition was listed as wet and weather was cloudy when the collision occurred.
